Shebet Peresha: Tzareai
Shabbat Shalom Mshpechha,
Welcome to Tazria (She Conceives), this week's Parasha (Torah portion).
This Shabbat is one of four special Shabbatot during the Purim/
Passover season that have special Torah readings. It is called
Shabbat HaChodesh (Sabbath [of the] month) since it precedes Nissan,
the month in which Passover (Pesach) is celebrated.
Biblically speaking, Nissan is the first month of the calendar year.
Please join us as we read the Torah portion that will be read in
synagogues around the world during this week's Shabbat (Saturday)
services. We know you will be blessed!
TAZRIA (She Conceives) Leviticus 12:1–13:59; Exodus 12:1–20; Ezekiel
45:16–46:18; Luke 5:12–15
"This month shall be for you the beginning of the months, it shall be
for you the first of the months of the year." (Exodus 12:2)
This Shabbat is the last of the Arba Parashiot (Four Portions) that
have special Torah readings in preparation for Pesach
(Passover), which is only two short weeks away! It is called Shabbat
HaChodesh (Sabbath [of the] month), and a special reading is added
from Exodus 12:1–20, which details the laws of Pesach (Passover),
including the preparation of the Passover Lamb.
The story of the Exodus is recounted in Jewish homes every year at the
Passover Seder (a ritual meal to commemorate אלהים redemption of His
people from Egypt).
